Cannabis (marijuana) is a plant that contains psychoactive substances in its leaves, flowers, and buds and their extracts (for example, oil and concentrates). Medical cannabis can help treat symptoms like pain, nausea, and lack of appetite. It may be used by people who have conditions like cancer, AIDS, or multiple sclerosis.

 

Medical cannabis MAY be helpful for some health conditions. 

 

These include:

  • Nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy.

  • Low appetite and weight loss for people who have AIDS.

  • Muscle stiffness for some multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury patients.

  • Chronic pain, in particular nerves (neuropathic) or pain at the end of life.

 

Cannabis is available as fresh and dried plant or oil extracts from licensed producers. It usually contains both THC and CBD.
